What You'll Do:

As a Bus Driver Trainee , you'll prepare for an important role helping children safely travel to and from school programs, activities, and field trips. Through hands-on training and certification support, you'll gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a professional school bus driver. In this role, you will:
  • Participate in all required training programs and learning opportunities.
  • Complete the Michigan School Bus Driver Safety Education Course and work toward obtaining a CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Learn transportation safety procedures to help ensure no child is ever left unattended on the bus.
  • Become familiar with the proper use of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment.
  • Follow all transportation policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with drug testing and reporting requirements, including notifying supervisors of any traffic violations.
  • Work closely with supervisors and trainers to successfully complete all required certifications and qualifications.
  • Help support safe and positive transportation experiences for children and families.
Every day, you'll be building the skills and knowledge needed to safely transport children while making a positive impact on the families and communities we serve.
  • Training will take approximately 16 Hours within approximately 30 Days.
  • After successful completion, the trainee may be offered a part time Bus Driver position.
  • Employee will be paid for in classroom and behind the wheel training time as authorized by the Health/Transportation Manager;
  • Fees and costs for training will be paid by NEMCSA as authorized by the Facilities & Transportation Manager;
  • Employees completing the training, obtaining their certification and offered a position must be willing to work a varied schedule and maintain satisfactory employment for a minimum of one year.
Requirements

This role is a great fit for someone who is dependable, safety-focused, and eager to learn. You'll receive the training and support needed to build a career in student transportation while making a positive impact on children and families.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous bus driver or other commercial motor vehicle driving experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements and a DOT Medical Examiner's Certification.
  • Must have a personal driving record with no more than six active points as determined by the Michigan Department of State.
